Considering all the modernity today, how can one be a good teacher?
WHO is the Teacher?
The teacher serves as the guide of the students in the course of their learning. While s/he is competent in content of the subject and is knowledgeable in methods of inquiry, the lessons are not solely directly given by the teacher but are drawn out from the students. Moreover, s/he is process oriented with a philosophy of holistic development or whole child orientation.
What are the GOALS of the Teacher?
A progressive teacher is an effective one when s/he is able to stimulate the students to initiate, plan and carry out their projects on their own. S/he encourages students to communicate in solving problems as a group not only within the context of the lesson, but more importantly on real-life problems. The teacher should be able to identify the interests of the students to use this as their avenue for learning and make all of their lessons experiential as much as possible.
Role of TECHNOLOGY
Technology can play a big part in learning since there are many features of technology that can provide manipulative, interactive and experiential activities. Moreover, these are the interests of most today’s children so teachers might as well make use of technology as their advantage in motivating the students to learn.
Conformity to TRENDS
Progressivism is all about being updated with the trends so that students can have a personal choice of what learning style is effective with them. Their source of learning should be coming from what they are experiencing everyday so that they can relate and apply it better in their own lives.
